Takachiho Shrine is also known as “Jyusha Daimyojin. It is said to have been built during the reign of Emperor Taruhito.

Every year on December 3 of the lunar calendar, there is a dedication of the Sasafuri Kagura, which is said to be the beginning of Kagura (Shinto music and dance).
The spring festival is held on April 16, and includes the ritual of going down the beach to Takachiho Gorge.

At the Kaguraden of Takachiho Shrine, four representative kagura numbers out of the 33 night kagura numbers of Takachiho are performed for one hour every night.
